Pavement 11: Not quite finished yet

March 7, 2010

Outside the Whole Foods on Stoke Newington Church Street I noticed an odd side effect of the road and pavement works that have been taking over this famous road recently. This is not the porter loo for the workman huddled behind those orange road construction fences at the back of the image, or the point at which the new road meets the old (which is curiously transcended by the ‘Keep Clear’ sign, fading on the old road and continued in resounding white on the new tarmac), but the double yellow lines that now lead to no-where.

This error is not befitting the perfection of our new street. We now have new traffic signs, bicycle stands, ‘quality’ pavement as Hackney council calls it, and this untidy disappearance of the double yellow beneath the newly laid buggy-friendly pavement just wont do! Plus, look at the decrepit state of these double yellow lines. They are not freshly painted! Come on Hackney Council, how could you let our street get in such a state!
